Drugs and substance abuse is one of the major vices that affect individuals in the contemporary society. Basically, people use drugs for leisure. However, some individuals abuse these substances with the notion that they would reduce or heal their depressions. In the long run, addiction becomes the end result. Notably, overindulgence in substance and drug use leads to the destabilization of the neurotransmission system, leading to cognitive inabilities. However, researchers have formulated various medications which help reduce the morbidity of the psychotic conditions. Despite the application of antipsychotic medication, it is evident that the incorporation of psychotherapeutic approaches helps stabilize victims suffering from mental problems that arise from drug and substance abuse.

Application of Psychotherapeutic Approaches in the Film

One of the most common approaches applied by psychiatrists is the cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Precisely, Carroll et al. (2014) demonstrate that CBT is most effective in virtually all the psychological predicaments when incorporated with the accurate administration of antipsychotic drugs. It is important to note that excessive prescription of antipsychotics harms the nervous system, leading to further complications amongst mental patients. However, applying CBT constructs warrants eventual recovery (Riper, Andersson, Hunter, de Wit, Berking, & Cuijpers, 2014). Clearly, the group therapist in the Levy film applied the CBT since the members of the group exhibited diverse psychological instabilities. For instance, Sabina complains that her husband does not trust her. Notably, the man inquires about her whereabouts when at work and checks her phone on a regular basis. She believes she has put enough effort in their marriage, but it is dysfunctional. Based on these details a psychiatrist can apply the behavior reversal construct of CBT, to convince Sabina understand that her husband is caring. In the long run, she would change her behavior and achieve a stable mind.

Opinion on CBT Approach

In my opinion, CBT would be the most effective. It is apparent that the therapist was handling a group of psychotic patients with diverse conditions. Besides, the group may have patients suffering from different mental ailments, but are well placed to help Sabina deal wither predicament. Andreassen (2015) states CBT allows for group discussions, an aspect that fosters openness and honesty. In the process, a victim learns important aspects applied to solve problems (Driessen et al., 2014). During interactions in the group, it is possible to encounter arguments. Based on this fact, I would employ dialogue in the quest to solve personal issues. In the long run, the group would develop cohesiveness, leading to emotional stability. Evidently, this aspect would benefit Sabina, since she would apply it at home with her husband Group Therapy for Addiction sample .

Alternative Approach for Group Therapy for Addiction

The humanistic approach is one of the strategies that can be employed by psychiatrists in ensuring patient stability. Basically, Lemberger (2017) states that the intervention is used to coerce patients to focus on positive aspects that add quality to their lives. Similar to the behavior reversal technic in CBT, humanistic approach ensures that the patient is aware of himself/herself and his/her actions. In fact, individuals are urged to be socially responsible and incorporate relevant adjustments to their environment to warrant lifestyles.

Conclusion

Addiction is one of the major aspects affecting individuals in the contemporary society. Basically, it leads to the deterioration of people’s health and is attributed to mental health problems. However, it is imperative to note that the incorporation of relevant psychotherapeutic approaches helps alleviate the situation. For instance, CBT is useful amongst groups of psychotic patients, as it helps change their behavior, leading to better health practices.
