Student will perform a literature review of a chosen practice issue and evidence based clinical interventions related to this practice issue. Student will present summaries of these scientific evidence in a matrix table and paper format.

Instructions:

1. Conduct a broad literature search of pertinent library databases such as CINAHL, PubMed, Medline, etc. using the different search terms to retrieve many research articles/practice guidelines to choose from.
2. Select ten research articles and/or practice guidelines in the past 5 years from peer-reviewed nursing or medical journals that pertain to your clinical problem, population of interest and evidence-based interventions. Research articles can usually be identified by their inclusion of introduction/background, methods, findings, limitations, discussion/conclusion sections in the article.
3. Develop an evidence synthesis tables that summarizes ten chosen research articles/practice guidelines using provided example and template (see attached example), making up 10 tables.
4. Write an analysis of the chosen articles/guidelines, critically evaluate the appropriateness, thoroughness, and limitations of the studies/guidelines. The paper should include:
   1. Introduction: clinical problem and population significance
   2. Search strategy and results: key words, article inclusion criteria, number of articles found, your process for choosing articles/guidelines for your synthesis table.
   3. Synthesis of the evidence from ten articles/guidelines: methods used in the studies, evidence-based practice interventions, major findings.
   4. Determine scientific credibility of studies/guidelines: your overall judgment of adequacy, appropriateness and thoroughness and limitations of the studies reviewed.
5. Paper should be maximum 4 pages long, not include appendix (Evidence Synthesis Table), title, and reference pages. Paper must be in APA format.

Are new mothers (P) who are single mothers (I) compared with mothers receiving support from the spouse (C) at increased risk for having postpartum depression (O) during the first year after delivery (T).
